Today, my husband and I and these two little rugrats:
Picture from this past Christmas, aren’t their matching jammies cute?
went to my 12-week midwife appointment early this morning to hear Bean III’s heartbeat for the first time. Ooh, let me tell you, tears, always the tears show up at these appointments. The greatest, most happiest tears of Joy! It is always so amazing to me to be able to hear that little heartbeat just racing “thump, thump, thump, thump” so fast and quick. 152 beats per minute if you are wondering. I know my hubby’s mom always wants to know what it is because she uses it to figure out if it’s a boy or a girl!! Not sure how that one works?
So, all this morning sickness and tiredness is really due to a teeny little baby…a real live baby…that I can hear a heartbeat and see with my very own eyes. Yup, that’s right! We did our first (and hopefully only) ultrasound today too. I have always had an early ultrasound done with all my pregnancies, just the one and no more, I’m a little weird and not to keen on the ultrasounds. No twins, phew! Saved again…they run on my mom’s side of the family and I keep saying it won’t be me but one of my sisters who gets them 😉 It’s amazing at this stage how in an ultrasound you can make out all the parts of this little baby all nestled in my belly.

This little one was waving his/her hands like crazy today too. Loved it, every single minute of it! Like it was saying, “Hi momma!!! Hi Dadda!!! Hi Big Brother and Big Sister!!!”
Wanna see a picture of our newest little family member? Ok, now introducing Bean III:
Makes all the morning sickness worth it!
I’m sure of that!

Congrats. I only have one child and was overjoyed when I was pregnant with her, but I think the next time I have an ultrasound it might even be more joyful because I know what an amazing gift it is first hand.

That’s awesome Maggie – SO happy for you!! It’s amazing how, at 12 weeks, he/she already looks like a little person. Makes my heart flutter just to think about it – yeah, bean III!!!

I think the faster heartbeat means boy?? Our Niblet’s ‘signs’ indicated a boy from beginning to end (according to the wives’ tales), but we have a girl to show for it all!
The first sound of the heartbeat was so amazing to me. My first appointment wasn’t even scheduled until I was 11 or 12 weeks. All I longed to hear for all those weeks was a heartbeat and when I did, and knew we’d gotten through the first stretch, I was so relieved I cried. I look forward to hearing a little heartbeat again!
So so happy that everything is going well!!

Than you so much for your kind words! I am just soooo over the moon to have been able to hear my little Bean III’s heartbeat. Something about hearing it just solidifies in your heart that all is well. And seeing that llittle baby just makes it all so real!!!!!
Much love to you all!!!
