Here are some pictures from our weekend! It’s freezing here in Illinois and I’m starting to think that we aren’t going to have a nice warm fall after all *tears* Our little Penny doesn’t even have a winter coat yet so she was bundled up in a ridiculous amount of layers or her brothers too small hand-me-downs to get through the cold (we are expecting a big box from Grandma this week and I’m pretty sure there is a new winter coat for Penelope in there…so needed right about now!) This weekend was the end of Fire Prevention Week (sorry I didn’t let you guys know earlier…I just found that out on Saturday…I feel like I’m such a bad blogger friend…sooorrrryyy!) and a we were able to go to a Fire Station Open House with some friends on Saturday. It was loads of fun. They let us run around in all their firetrucks, the ambulance, the flight for life helicopter (which they did a take-off demonstration of…so cool!), they even tore apart a car with the jaws of life and let the kids play with the fire hose and spray out a fire with an extinguisher and of course we had a tour of the station so we were able to see where they make their meals, hang out and go to bed! You definitely need to mark this week on your calenders for next year it was so much fun! See all the goodness below:
A Weekend in Pictures
So many things to break…I’m amazed at how many things they let the kids climb on and play with!
Noah trying to climb up the fire engine. Did you know that the engine’s have the big ladders on top? Otherwise it’s a fireTRUCK! This ladder was only up 75 feet and it look crazy scary, it can reach up too 110 feet or to an 11 story building…talk about swaying in a very cold breeze at the top!
Noah with the big fire hose trying to put out a house fire (made of cardboard!)
Noah dressed up in some kiddie fireman gear
Awww, a picture with a real-life fireman! I contemplated for a moment just photo-shopping Noah out of this picture…man, this fireman is pretty darn good looking!
And Penny’s favorite thing of the day, well, she just loved to chew on her fireman’s hat.
Family picture by all the hoses! Every family needs one of these.
On Sunday, we went to another apple orchard. We went to All Seasons Apple Orchard this time. We have been many times before and love it because they have lots of varieties of apples to choose from and even asian pears…those are sooo good! They look like an apple but have a pear’s skin…DELISH! This orchard even has a petting zoo and lots of fun things for the kidlets to play on like bounce houses, etc. They even have an apple cannon shooting target thing! And, you just can’t leave here without buying a pack of apple cider donuts…which we promptly ate every one of them in the car on the way home…Oops!..really the kids ate most of them…okay, not really…UGH! So, here are some pictures from another cold day in Illinois *SIGH*
Caught in the act!
Penny found the perfect apple!
We had to stuff Penny into Noah’s old coat for this adventure and I think it was a 6-12 months size, poor thing!
Belly full and now a serene wagon ride back to the barn.
Ahh, pure heaven!

Sounds like you guys had a blast at the Fire Station Open house.
This is Wendy Harman from the American Red Cross. We’re so glad to see families like yours paying attention to fire prevention. Congratulations especially for making it fun.
For Fire Prevention Week/Month we built a map that displays all the home fires our chapters respond to. Thought you might like to take a look at it.

What a fun weekend! My husband’s fire dept. had their Open House the 3rd, and I had to miss it because of a funeral. 🙁
This weekend we bundled up my daughter in my son’s old winter jacket too – and went to get our pumpkins. The cold came TOO quickly to Northern Illinois!! I’m not ready! 🙁

Wendy-WOW! That is unbelieveable how many home fires there have been this past year! The Fire Station we visited mentioned not to leave dishwashers running and washers and driers going when you are not home to prevent home fires from happening…how many times have so many of us done that!!
Beth-I feel you…there are so many fun fall things to do right now and the weather soooo makes you just want to stay inside, bleh!!!!
