Adventures in Strawberry Pickin’

| Filed Under: Adventures with Kids, Summer Fun

We had ourselves a little family adventure yesterday…

We picked a lot of these babies.

Well, some of us did.  Other little ones of the less than 2 year old variety needed to think about it.

Until we figured out why we were there.  Sampling is the best part, no?

We had lots of good helpers this year.  They each filled a basket and wanted to stay longer to fill more.

Even little Eloise had picked a few, although she ate more than she picked 🙂

She mainly wanted to show her baby the strawberry field.
Up and down.
Up and down.
Up and down the rows she went.
The belly came along too 😉

See that little babe in there?

Oh, there was a lot of bending and squatting.  What was I thinking?
Apparently, this is the way to pick strawberries.

Oh, and this way.
Without shoes is so much more comfortable, didn’t you know?
I guess I didn’t get the memo on that one.

Mr. Smashed Peas was the best helper of all.
He loaded up the biggest basket they had, what a champ!
I think fresh strawberry jam was on his mind.

Over 15 pounds of sweet little berries picked.
And I made 2 batches of jam.
Thank goodness for air conditioning.
Low sugar and No sugar varieties will be had this year.
Just trying to be a bit more healthy.
Mr. Smashed Peas and the rest of the the gang are happy campers enjoying their toast this morning!
I hope you are enjoying your summer too.
Thanks for stopping by to read!
XOXO,

Yum! Those strawberries look delicious! What fun! We love picking our own berries as well. We’ve picked strawberries before but I think our favorite is picking blueberries! ~Robin

Looks like so much fun! It’s one of those times they really should weigh you before you go in and then see the difference when you come out. LOL

YUM! You are a brave woman for picking strawberries so close to your baby coming. lol. The jam will be so good! I actually made the low sugar freezer jam last year and thought it was almost too sweet.

Oh, I haven’t made freezer jam in forever! Maybe I’ll have to do that next time as my kitchen was getting way too hot for me with all the boiling water!

I’ve always wanted to go strawberry picking! My sister took us blueberry picking last summer and we picked SO MANY. And ate all of them. I love to pick berries of all sorts, it makes me feel like a kid again. We would always go find wild berries with my mom. She always seemed to know the best places to go.

Picking blueberries is the best because they freeze so well! We always pick way too many but then we have trays and trays to freeze that ‘usually’ last us until November!! I love this time of year!

I can’t wait to go strawberry picking this year! And now you said blueberry picking too! I have to do that & then apple & pumpkin picking in the fall! So exciting! You look amazing!! Your family is so cute! & The strawberries look so yummy!! I wanted to be healthier with low sugar and no sugar jam. Do you have a recipe or how I would do that? This would be my first time making it and I was googling away and I was shocked in how much sugar you need!! Esp since strawberries are really sweet & yummy to begin with..

Strawberry pickin is awesome especially the fact about the sampling! Have you ever purchased the crates of peaches that come from Georgia every year? We do it and boy are those good!!! They usually come in July…
