I know I’ve said this before but my littles start school in less than 3 weeks, eeep! If you can believe it (because I can’t!), this year I will officially have all four in school. Yep. It’s true. Deep breath. Eloise will start full day kindergarten and Oliver (my littlest babe) will go to preschool two days a week… hold me now. At least I can get excited about all the back-to-school shopping to be had. I love me some school supply shopping and don’t even get me started on Back-to-School Outfits. My. Favorite. Thank goodness I have kids who love back-to-school shopping too. That makes it even more fun! And what makes it even more fun than that are all the great deals and awesome clothes to be had at JCPenney right now. The kids and I went last week and picked out a few outfits already and I can’t wait to share them with you!!!
JCPenney believes that back-to-school shopping is a time to show what’s new with the ever-changing “you.” It’s not about looking like everyone else, it’s about your take on the latest fashion trends. But it’s also about bending the trend of social negativity with an expressive spirit of support and positivity. With affordable clothes from JCPenney, there are endless opportunities to express yourself. Since Back-to-School at JCPenney is all about defining your own trend – in your own unique way – their collections are designed to mix and match two distinct trends to fit each student’s individual personality. JCPenney has highlighted a few of these trends in their stores such as Gym-Tastic, Sophisti-Casual, Athleisure, and Action Sports.
One of the biggest trends this year is athletic wear. JCPenney has an large collection of brands including Xersion, City Streets and Nike, in which kids are sure to find the perfect hoodie, yoga pant, leggings, athletic shorts or moisture-wicking tee to wear to school or soccer practice. Noah loves to wear athletic clothes for their comfiness and was so excited when he found this lightweight moisture-wicking graphic T-shirt in one of his favorite colors – orange, and pair of athletic pants from Xersion. He gave this outfit a two thumbs up in looks and comfort!
He also picked out this outfit which we are calling his “School Picture Day” outfit. He loves the softness and heather-y blue color of the T-shirt and of course all the pockets on those cargo shorts, both from Arizona. JCPenney also carries retro Chuck Taylor Converse which are on-trend and super popular right now. I love how he paired them with this more casual look!
Another trend you can see in JCPenney stores for girls is called “gymtastic.” It combines traditional gym clothes with attention-getting sparkle and color, like pairing metallic striped leggings with a tunic jersey accented in glitter. Penny mixed and matched this fun outfit from Total Girl that includes a high-low tunic T-shirt with a pink glittery accent, paired with these fun black and white graffiti-style leggings. She already had a glittery pair of black hi-tops that finished the look perfectly. She also picked out this super comfy outfit which consists of Arizona jeggings and this high low crocheted block style t-shirt.
Penny loves jeggings and these ones from Arizona are fabulous as they have an elastic waistband instead of a button and zipper closure!! They even have real front and back pockets so they really do look and feel like real jeans just minus all the buttoning hassle!
My little Eloise picked out this comfy and sparkly number. Another “gymnastic” trend outfit idea but for the kindergarten age group! This fun jersey style T-shirt has lace accents on the numbers and the back, and the black jogging style pants even have a little sparkly heart near the hip. Both pieces are by Okie Dokie.
And lastly. Oh my, last but not least is this little heartbreaker. Oliver gets lots of hand-me downs but I thought it would be fun to let him pick out a “School Picture” outfit like his brother and this, if you can believe it, is what he chose!!! Talk about A-Dorable! This outfit is comfy meets casual. A more dressy Arizona plaid button up paired with a pair of relaxed fit Arizona jeans. He was super excited to pick out school clothes, it was way too cute!
In case you are wondering, the hottest colors for teens this season include blues and reds in deep, rich hues and muted tones. The very trendy athleisure apparel at JCPenney features bursts of bold blues, bright pinks, reds and yellows, and if you are trying to create a trend-right look for back-to-school then floral prints, tribal patterns, plaids, camouflage and animal prints are the way to go. For kids, bright colors and lighthearted, playful graphics will also be prominent this year along with bold stripes, shiny prints and animal graphics. And as for accessories, in addition to colorful, printed backpacks, layered necklaces, long pendants and tassels, accessories with fringe accents and statement earrings will be popular for the new school year.
Also, did you know National #ShoutOutDay is 8/12! Who doesn’t love a shout out (AKA compliment)? They fuel self-expression. The more we receive, the more emboldened we become to explore our personal style and best school day selves. That’s why this Back-to-School season, JCPenney is starting a shout-out movement in hopes of bending the trend of judgement prevalent in high schools towards one of positive reinforcement. On National #ShoutOutDay, JCPenney will take to social media to fuel shout-outs as they pertain to style. They encourage anyone and everyone to join in on the conversation and hand out shout-outs to their friends, family and followers. Simply use #ShoutOutDay to jump in on the conversation. The hope is that that JCPenney’s efforts will create a snowball effect in culture, with complimentary behavior stretching beyond the world of style in months to come.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope this helps you as you start Back-to-School shopping this season! If you would like a chance to win a $100 JCPenney gift card please tell me in the comments below, “What top trends are on your Back-to-School shopping list this fall?”
Love, Maggie
