Oh my freakin’ goodness! I pulled this recipe out for the first time in a looong while last week and holy crap I forgot how good they were! These little mini-muffins are absolutely Fab-u-lous…the perfect size for munching with your morning coffee (yes, that would be decaf for me, thankyouverymuch) or having as a sweet little afternoon snack. They taste like yummy little donut holes, so there you have it…Donut Muffins…a genius name, I know.
The ingredients are simple and hopefully you already have most of them in your pantry. There is a bit of nutmeg in them which may seem strange but it really adds a nice “whoa, these are yummy” taste to these muffins, really. Let’s take a brief peek at all the deliciousness that is the Donut Muffin:
Uh-huh, spectacular!!
Alright, so here’s the recipe…enjoy!
Donut Muffins
Recipe Type: Breakfast
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 18 mini muffins
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk (soy milk works nicely too!)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grease a mini-muffin tin, set aside.
- Mix up the 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup butter and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- Then, add in the milk, baking powder and flour until just combined.
- Fill muffin tins about 3/4 full and bake for 15-20 minutes.
- During baking get your cinnamon-sugar topping mixed up.
- Melt 1/4 cup butter in a small bowl and then in a separate bowl mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
- When the muffins are done, remove them from the pan.
- Dip the tops in the melter butter and then roll the WHOLE muffin in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Let cool.

When the muffins are finished remove them from the muffin tins and dip ONLY the tops in the melted butter. Then, roll the WHOLE muffin in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Let cool and EAT!

That sounds great! Always like recipes that use ingredients that I usually have on hand. Anything with sugar and cinnamon HAS TO taste good!
Making them right now and it smells really good in my kitchen! Any idea if you can use apple cider in place of milk? Just thinking ahead to fall…mmmmmmm. Thanks for sharing!

Planning to make these in the morning… but I just noticed the recipe doesn’t even call for an egg. Is that correct?

I made these and my kids ate them up quick! They loved them. Thanks for sharing
yummy!!
I would love to have this added to my Friday Food Favs Link Party! http://barrettbakes.blogspot.com/2010/07/fridays-food-favs.html
LOL! Been thinking about making these for the longest time. Finally seized the opportunity for our snow day on Wednesday. The girls and I liked them, but my hubby loved them. I turned around for a moment and when I looked back they were seriously all gone. He ate 7 of them by himself (we made them in the big muffin tin so there were only 12)! Thanks for the great recipes, will be trying more soon!
How long would you bake these for if you used a regular sized muffin tin?
Hmm, I would venture to guess around 20-24 minutes…but keep checking as all ovens are a bit different!!
THESE ARE DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!
i just dig regular muffin tins – 400F 18ish minutes. SO good! thank you!
These are delicious and so easy! I doubled the recipe and made them in a regular sized pan and they cooked up beautifully (I probably could’ve baked them for a couple more minutes, but I don’t care!) Yum. Such a great idea for something with ingredients you know you will have! This is getting bookmarked for sure.

These are delicious and so easy if you just want to make something with ingredients you know you have on hand. I doubled the recipe and used a regular sized pan, and they baked up beautifully (better than recent recipes I’ve tried) But I probably could’ve cooked them a little longer. Either way- so good, and will be making these again for sure!!!
These are delicious! I just whipped them up during naptime and I’m sure the twins will LOVE them when they wake up for a snack!! So glad I found these on pinterest!!
Have you tried making with Pamela’s Baking Mix? Just curious.
Yes, Pamela’s works perfectly!
Just made a batch of these and they didn’t even get to cool before they were all snatched up! Soooo Delicious! Thanks!
I just made a batch of these and they were all snatched up before they even got a chance to cool off! Sooooo delicious!!! Thanks!
can i not use nutmeg powder? can i substitute nutmeg with cinnamon powder instead? and can i use a self-raising flour than a multi-purpose flour?

AWESOME Julie! So glad you like the recipe and thank you for letting us know how it is with the coconut oil substitute, I am going to have to give that a whirl now!!
