Essential Oils: Family Favorite Roll On Blends

| Filed Under: Essential Oils, Tutorials

Happy New Year, friends! I hope you had yourselves a lovely holiday vacation, we sure did…relaxing and having all day to play is the best I tell you! So I was thinking during my break that this year I wanted to share our family’s use of essential oils with you. We love essential oils and have been using them for years! Being that my husband and I are both chiropractors, we have found essential oils are a wonderful adjunct to how we try to live our lives naturally. I thought a great post to start the new year off would be one where I shared some of our family’s favorite roll-on blends with you.I have to tell you that we use our oils on a daily basis, they are just that great! We diffuse oils in our kitchen and family room every day (right now Protective Blend, Wild Orange, and Lavender are getting a lot of play!) We also love the roll-on bottles (I buy mine here) for ease of use when applying oils to the bottoms of our feet, chest, nape of neck, or wrists. This way we feel like we don’t overuse or waste any trying to dilute them in the palms of our hands and as a big bonus the bottles also make an already diluted oil or oil blend easy to take on the road!

Okie dokie, so to make Roll On Blends you will need a few things:

  • Roller Ball bottles, I seem to use the 10 ml the most! (I buy mine here)
  • A carrier oil (like Fractionated Coconut oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, etc)
  • Essential Oils

jojoba oilAnd here are a few of our family’s favorite Roll On Blends. We always have these on hand, with four little ones you just never know when you are going to need them!

Upper Respiratory Tract Discomfort Blend-Apply to chest or bottoms of feet. Helps you breathe easier.

  • 4 drops Peppermint
  • 3 drops Protective Blend
  • 2 drops Oregano
  • 1 drop Frankincense
  • Fill the remainder of the roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice

Upper Airways Discomfort Blend-Apply to chest or bottoms of feet every 3-4 hours.

  • 6 drops Respiratory Blend
  • 6 drops Frankincense
  • 6 drops Peppermint and/or Protective Blend
  • 30 drops of carrier oil

Focus Blend-Apply to nape of neck, wrists, temples to help you feel more focused. Great for kids going to school!

  • 10 drops Peppermint
  • 10 drops Wild Orange
  • Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice

Owie Blend-Roll on a band-aid, cotton ball, or piece of gauze every few hours to help support your body’s healing process.

  • 10 drops Melaleuca
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Frankincense
  • Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice.

Seasonal Discomfort Blend-Apply to bottoms of feet up or back of neck up to 3x a day.

  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Lemon
  • 10 drops Peppermint
  • Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice.

*We always dilute essential oils before applying the to our children! Please use caution when doing so as essential oils are very concentrated oil!!! This is why we love our roll on bottles, they make it very easy to dilute the oils and apply them with ease!

I hope this helps you if you are thinking about using essential oils or if you already do. And if you have any blends that you love, please share with us by leaving a comment!

Love,
Maggie

        Hi Melissa!
These are already diluted for children!

I see you say these are already diluted for children, so my question would be if I am using them on adults only, should the ratio be different? As maybe more drops of oil??
I’m new at all this so I am trying to learn what is most effective

If you are new to oils, less is more. So this may be a good starting point for you!

Do you make these blends in a 5 ml or 10 ml roll on bottle?

I use 10 ml roll on bottles

i am new to oils and have a question about the seasonal discomfort blend. I keep reading we should be using a 2% blend which is about 4 drops of oil per 10ml roll-on. Your seasonal discomfort blend is about 25-30%. Just curious why you are using a higher percentage. I trust that it works for you. I am just trying to understand the differences. Thanks for all your info.

        March 3, 2015 at 4:07 am

We found that this blend works really well for us. You can try the lower percentage and if it works for you stick with it. We don’t use this one continuously either, just a 2-3 day period of time so that may be why you are reading about lower percentage oil blends!
        xo,
        Maggie

Great info….thank you so much. I was wondering if you have the blend to increase immunity in the wintertime? It works so great for us but I’m not sure what the essential oils used are. I hadn’t thought of Amazon for the roller ball bottles! Thank you again…great info!

I do have a recipe to increase immunity in the winter, I will have to dig it out and post it…we love it too!!!

Hi, I’m going to make up a couple of these blends for our family. Curious though, as I have 5 ml rollers.. should I cut the drops in half? Or is it OK to use the same amounts?
      Thanks!!

      • Maggie says

        March 24, 2015 at 4:08 pm

        Hi Gretchen!
Yes, I would cut the drops in half since you will be using less carrier oil!! happy oiling!!!

      Thanks!

      Hi!
I was just wondering, are the rollerbal recipes you have listed above safe for kids? Or, would I need to dilute even further for my six year old?
      Thanks!

Is it too much to use both roll on blend & aromatic in a diffuser? Trying to preserve oils but also get maximum benefit.

      • Maggie says

        April 3, 2015 at 3:58 am

It depends on what you are using and for what purpose but there are times when we definitely use the roll-ons and also diffuse!

      Hey Maggie,

I was curious what the dilution ratio is for the oils to be applied to children. My kids are 4 and 2 (not sure if age makes a difference). I have been told when I first started using oils that some oils are safe to be applied directly to feet and am now discovering some research which shows they do need to be diluted. Would love your thoughts and advice! Thanks so much.

      Katie

I dilute all my oils, for me and for my children! I am always on the cautious side with oils, they are powerful!!! Less is always more! Start off with 2-5 drops diluted in a rollerball and work from there depending on your children, the particular oil, and their sensitivities!

In the Owie blend, it calls for melaleuca. Is that tea tree or one of the other melaleucas? I’m new to oils and don’t want to mess it up! Thanks!

      • Maggie says

Yes, it is also known as Tea Tree Oil!

      Hi,

How would you dilute the protective blend oil in a 5ml bottle? 5 drops and then fill the rest?

      • Maggie says

        September 1, 2015 at 10:24 pm

Yes, everything would be reduced by half…so 5 drops and fill rest with FCO.

It is a blend formulated to support healthy immune function using wild orange essential oil, combined with clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary offer a fragrant, natural and effective alternative to synthetic options for immune support!

What kind of oil’s would be good to use to help with vertigo?

      • MAK says

I found using only peppermint e/o mixed with a carrier oil worked wonders for my husband. I would just recommend smelling the carrier oil first. I tried one kind and he did not care for the smell of the oil at all.

What are the dilutions for babies! 3 months
      Thank you.

      • Maggie says

        February 8, 2016 at 8:29 pm

I would dilute a lot for babies that small, try 1 drop per 3-4 tablespoons of carrier oil and go from there!

      Hi Maggie
Can you make any recommendations for my husbands Parkinson tremors. Oils blends that I can make for topical use and blends that I can put in our defused before I leave for work to help him stay calm. I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE
ps…. I’m thinking about buying more oils for my collection. What are your favorite companies and why?

        Hi Linda!
Unfortunately I cannot recommend anything for your husband due to compliance issues but I do highly suggest checking out Modern Essentials, it’s a great book with lots of eo information!! Happy oiling!

I have recently started using oils. Sounds like I have put too many drops in the bottles, but I will adjust that! Thanks for your info. What is the seasonal discomfort blend for?

      • Maggie says

        January 25, 2016 at 3:10 am

Seasonal discomfort blend is for those seasonal discomforts that many people get due to nature! Sorry I can’t be much more specific, it’s a compliance thing!! 😉
