Easy Romantic Dessert: Bananas Foster

| Filed Under: Dessert, Gluten Free, Recipes

With Valentine’s Day being only two days away, I thought I would post another yummy dessert to share with your sweeties! This is one of my most favorite desserts from waaay back when in my childhood days…Throwback! My parents would make it with real rum (don’t worry, the alcohol burns off!) and then right before we were ready to eat it we would turn off all the kitchen lights and set it aflame. It was the coolest dessert my parents would make!!
This recipe is very similar except that I use rum extract. We never have rum in the house, we aren’t big on rum drinks and I seem to always be pregnant or nursing so having a whole bottle of the stuff just doesn’t seem worth it to us. A little of the rum extract goes a long way in giving that ‘just right’ flavor to the Bananas Foster, seriously you won’t miss the real thing! Although, I’ve never tried to light it on fire so I’m not sure that the extract would be able to do that…Hmmm, maybe real rum is worth it!
Ok, enough with the rambling…on with the recipe!
Bananas Foster
Recipe Type: Dessert
Prep time: 5 mins
Cook time: 5 mins
Total time: 10 mins
Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • 4 bananas, sliced any way you like
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • dash (or about 1/2 tsp) rum extract (or real Rum if you’d like)
Instructions
  1. Melt butter on medium heat in a saute pan.
  2. Add brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and rum extract and stir until combined.
  3. Add your banana slices and stir.
  4. Once the brown sugar syrup mixture starts to bubble it’s all done, the bananas should be nice and soft and all ingredients should be gooey.

Ok then here you go!

Melt your butter…

Add in your brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and rum extract…

Add your four bananas sliced any which way you like…

Medium-high heat will get your brown sugar syrup-y Bananas Foster goodness a-bubblin’!
Almost ready!!

Ok, now just turn off the heat and let it cool a bit… nice and gooey, the way all desserts should be! Your bananas should soften up and look like so! Looks good doesn’t it!?!

Scoop over some vanilla ice cream and enjoy something Sweet with your Sweetie ♥!
Ahhh, Romantic!

If you are using rum you will need about 1/4 cup. Add it in last after everything is gooey and mixed and then ignite it to burn off all the alcohol! Make sure you turn your lights down, it’s sooooo cool! But be careful!!!
