I thought I’d share more of our favorite Essential Oil Roll On Blends for Kids since the last post I did (found here) was such a big hit! There are so many uses for essential oils, they really are amazing. If you have been on the fence about trying them out, I highly suggest giving them a whirl. We have seen such great results with these blends in our family as well as in our friends’ families too.
Just like I mentioned in my other post, we tend to use the 10 mL glass roller bottles to make our blends. You can buy them here. You can also use the 5 mL but then I would decrease the essential oils by half to keep the dilution ratios the same. All these oil blends work great for children ages two and up.
Here is what you’ll need to get started:
- Glass Roller Ball bottles (I buy mine here)
- A carrier oil (like Fractionated Coconut oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, etc)
- Various Essential Oils
Happy Kid/Relaxation Blend-Apply to wrists, nape of neck, or bottoms of feet.
- 10 drops Grounding Blend
- 10 drops Calming Blend
- Fill the remainder of the roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice
Hair and Scalp Discomfort Blend-Use on scalp, hair, nape of neck, and behind ears. Spray can be used on backpacks, coats, jackets, etc.
- 5 drops Melaleuca
- 5 drops Lavender
- 5 drops Eucalyptus
- 5 drop Rosemary
- Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice and roll on scalp/hair, nape of neck, and behind ears. Or fill the remainder of a 1 oz glass spray bottle with water, shake well, and spray on hair, scalp, backpacks, coats, jackets, etc.
Support for Ear Health Blend-Apply to nape of neck, behind ear and down lymphatic chain when child feels ear discomfort.
- 10 drops Lavender
- 10 drops Melaleuca
- 10 drops Basil
- Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice
Respiratory Discomfort Blend-Roll on chest or bottoms of feet or swipe under nose (for older children who will understand not to touch!)
- 20 drops Respiratory Blend
- Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice.
Tummy Discomfort Blend-Apply to tummy or inside belly button.
- 10 drops Digestive Blend
- 10 drops Peppermint
- Fill remainder of roll-on bottle with carrier oil of your choice.
*We always dilute essential oils before applying the to our children. Please use caution when doing so as essential oils are very concentrated oil!!! This is why we love our roll on bottles, they make it very easy to dilute the oils and apply them with ease!
I hope these blends make their way into your family’s health and wellness cabinet. We love them and are so happy we can stick to a more natural route to keep our kids healthy! Please let me know if you have any questions and if there are any blends you love, I would love to hear about them in the comments below! Also, if you’d like to learn about where I buy my essential oils please contact me at SmashedPeasandCarrot[at]gmail[dot]com.

Thanks for the great info. Maggie. I’m hearing more and more about essential oils and I wasn’t well versed on the subject. Thanks for this resource and the valuable links. Cheers to healthy kids!

Thanks for sharing your blends!!! I am new to oils and was wondering if I were to dilute only one oil like lavender in a 8ml roller ball for my 5 year old, how may drops of lavender should I do?? Thank you so much for your help!!
Maggie says
I would add 5-10 and fill the rest with FCO. I always suggest “less is more” until you know what it can do or can’t do for you!

Thank you for this, these are wonderful blends! What blend would you recommend for head discomfort in little ones? I would love to have a roller ball for that to help soothe her! Thanks for your help!

I read this when you first posted this and I keep coming back to it. It is very helpful for a newbie with 4 kids. Do you have any tips for EO use for respiratory discomfort? Thanks!
Alysia says
Lol…okay…the answer to my question was right there. I clicked on the link to your other post on essential oils and a lovely recipe for respiratory discomfort is right there. 😛
Maggie says
Ha! That is too funny! I’m glad you found the link and exactly what you were looking for!!! Happy oiling!

Hi! I was wondering about the blends. I’m new to oils and have a kit. I was wondering if the respiratory blend you mention is one you came up with or if it is one you purchased already blended. I was curious about the protective blend you spoke of in anther post also, if that was one you created or purchased. Thanks so much!
Maggie says
Hi Jayme!
Both of those blends are pre-blended already so you don’t have to create them at all!
Jayme says
Thank you!

Hair/scalp discomfort…do you mean sensory sensitive?
Maggie says
No, it pertains to those little critters that some children get, wink wink! Sorry, I have to be compliant!
