Fish-tastic Friday Nights.

| Filed Under: Adventures with Kids

Last night we took the kids to their first Friday night Fish Fry.
We ate a ridiculous amount of fried fish (both Walleye and Pollock), fried shrimp, fried hush puppies and fried potatoes…aka french fries 🙂  And plenty of non-fried items including lemon baked cod, coleslaw, delicious breads and even pizza, mac n’ cheese, and applesauce for the kids, oh my!
I feel like I did my duty as a Wisconsin native to finally take my kids to a true Lenten Fish Fry.  Oh how midwestern we are in these parts…please don’t laugh!

While we were eating, Noah spotted an older gentleman sporting a very long and full white beard a la Santa Clause and he was absolutely ecstatic about this random spotting of the man in red.  He kept yelling out ‘Hi Santa‘ (thank goodness the man was too far away to hear that!) and then turning to anyone who would listen to say, “Hey, Santa is here.  I saw him with my own eyes!‘
The good part about ‘Santa’ being in the house was that we were able to get the kids to eat their meals without a putting up a fight.  Then we could all partake in dessert without hesitation…Yay us!

We ate so much.  Too much.
All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry conquered.
Until next Friday.
XOXO,

Yum! Hitting a fish fry on a Friday night is one of the things I miss about the Midwest (born in MI, now living in ID).

      And too cute about Santa.

I live in PA and Friday Fish Fry is EVERYWHERE. And I know my sister has it in NY, too. I didn’t realize it wasn’t a “whole country” kind of thing! My boss was frantically trying to squeeze it in before going to see James Taylor last night – she said it wasn’t fair to make her choose between the 2 so she’d make it work!!

We didn’t have Santa at the fish fry last week. My kids were maniacs. They ran all over and came back to our table for a bite and then off again. And my daughter sneezed on someone’s food. Awesome. Fish was awesome tho.

We have a family friend that has actually been the Santa at Macy’s New York for several years. He and his wife, Mrs. Clause, traveled there from MN every year. He is used to kids of all ages calling him Santa and he doesn’t mind a bit, I think if you have a long white beard, it’s expected.
