Happy Halloween a day late from our four Ghostbusters…Venkman, Holtzmann, Spengler, and Gilbert as well as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Kevin! I wanted to share this year’s Family Halloween Ghostbusters Costume theme with you yesterday but we didn’t get to taking pictures until after school today and then it was ‘hey, let’s get to Trick-or-Treating!” You know how that goes. We actually had the nicest weather we’ve had in a very long time on Halloween. It was cool but not cold and there wasn’t freezing wind or rain, so we call that a huge win!
We were actually able to Trick-or-Treat the whole 4 hours worth and the kids each had their buckets full…I mean over the top and candy falling out type full..crazy. That never happens because it’s usually too dang cold for us to last more then an hour or two! I foresee another day or two of excitement over all the candy and then we will probably do what we do every year which is to pick out all the fun candies for gingerbread house decorating and then the rest will go to the food pantry. It’s a win-win!
This summer we were mega into Ghostbusters. Grandma bought us both Ghostbusters 1 and 2 over summer break and we watched them a ton. The kids loved them! Which was just what we’d hoped would happen because the new one was coming out at the end of July. By they way, it was hilarious if you haven’t seen it yet. Having all those SNL ladies a part of it made it so funny, plus most of the old cast made guest appearances. Also, Chris Hemsworth. Well, his character was so dang funny! With all the Ghostbusters craziness in our house, it worked out perfectly that all my littles wanted to be Ghostbusters this year! I was going to make their suits but when I received an email from Target Cartwheel saying they were having a one day only 40% off halloween costume sale, and they just happened to have Ghostbusters suits online, well, I couldn’t not buy them!!! Especially with all the travel I had to do in October!
We knew we wanted Kevin (Chris Hemsworth’s character in the new GB movie!) to be a part of our ensemble and so that was what Clif ended up being. I found a plaid shirt and a zip up sweater for a few bucks at a local thrift store and we had some fake glasses already so that was easy enough!
All I really needed to do was make my own costume…The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! I based it off of Oliver’s Olaf costume here except I enlarged it a bit (of course!) and then I sewed up some pants I using some old pajama bottoms as a quick make shift pattern. The hat was inspired from the Olaf costume too, I just needed to make the tinier little hat the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man wears to put on top and it was all done!
I think it turned out pretty good, what do you think? 🙂
We had such a fun night, and got lots of compliments on our themed costumes, I wish we could do them forever but I’m sure it won’t last much longer!!!
I hope you had a safe and fun Halloween!!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Love,
Maggie
