Head and Shoulders Review and $50 VISA Gift Card Give Away

We are in the midst of fall right now, and that means weeks of cool weather in the 60’s and 70’s followed by random stretches of a day or two here and there where the weather will dip into the very chilly 30’s and 40’s. I guess that’s nature’s way of getting us ready for the cold, negative numbers we are about to become very familiar with, when winter arrives for what seems like half the year here in the midwest.
It seems that the last few years around this time, my scalp starts to get itchy, and *gasp* I might even admit to seeing a bit of dandruff at the beginning of the cold weather and dry, dry air that comes with it. With my dark hair, that is definitely no good. For the last few years, one part of my ‘beauty’ routine that definitely changes when colder weather hits is to switch out my shampoo. Do you do this too? I always try to switch over to a more moisturizing shampoo when the dry air enters the picture, so I was excited when Head & Shoulders sent me their new Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care shampoo and conditioner to try out, as my head is definitely a candidate for using it this time of year.
The Head & Shoulders Itchy Scalp Line promises to ease three scalp and dandruff problems:
1. Dryness
2. Itchiness
3. Sensitivity
They use a Hydra zinc formula to alleviate these conditions so your hair is beautifully flake free, just what I need! Now, I’ve been using this line for the past few weeks and I have to tell you I really like it. First off, it smells great! It has a really fresh, clean smell, not a boring dandruff shampoo type of smell. I don’t know about you, but I really like my shampoos to smell good. It’s just one of those things I think a shampoo should have, a good smell. Head & Shoulders uses naturally inspired fragrances like almond oil, eucalyptus, and aloe vera in this line which in my book smell great alone and together!
I thought the shampoo worked really well. After every use it left my hair shiny and soft which I don’t always feel when I have used medicated or dandruff shampoos in the past. Of course the best thing about this shampoo is that my scalp has been itch-free, and I haven’t seen one speck of dandruff, wahooo! I love a product that does what it claims to do, don’t you?

I change my routine by changing shampoo and conditioner to something that controls frizz and static. I get super frizzy hair in the summer, and super staticy (if that is a word) hair in the winter.

    Thanks 🙂

I actually don’t do anything different. My hair is frizzy all year round. There hasn’t been a single product I’ve yet to find that tames my hair. And everyone who has ever worked on my hair is completely baffled.

  16. Sandyhere says

    November 21, 2011 at 5:02 pm

It seems my whole body reacts to the change in weather. Winter routine is to add body oil to my after shower, definitely Head & Shoulders on occasion, lotion morning and night, more attention to my nail cuticles, mainly oil to the cuticles to keep them from tearing.. and last but not least over night lotion or oil glove/sock treatments for feet and hands. I have the worst skin in the winter.. It cracks if I don’t take special care. Sometimes I think I am allergic to winter.. 🙁 Oh and oil treatments for my hair.. it frizzes and breaks because it gets so dry.. and did I mention the problem lips.. I could go on but this is just a blog comment. Thanks for the giveaway.. I could use the money for the extra supplies I have to use in Winter. 🙂

Definitely bulking up on the moisturizers. Everything needs more of it, hands, hair, skin. Also, we add lip care (especially for my fair skinned little girl whose lips would otherwise split).

  37. milliedog says

For cracked skin around my fingertips and nails I use “New Skin”. Makes it feel so much better. In the winter I sleep with big cozy socks on. When I get out of the shower at night I slather heavy cream like Lubriderm on, paying particular attention to my heels, then put on the cozy socks. By springtime you have the softest, prettiest feet, just in time for your favorite sandals!

We buy cetaphil in a huge jar, in the summer we just use olive oil. I only was my hair 2 times a week, unless it needs it more and the girls get a bath once a week unless needed we also give put in ground oatmeal if their skin is really dry. Summer I could shower and wash everyday and that still doesn’t seem to be enough with the humidity. A separate facial night cream, normally I would just use a regular daily moisturizer but a night cream feels wonderful in the winter

My hair feels drier in winter, and flat from wearing hats..Wash my hair and use a deep conditioner in the winter more than I do in the summer. Hardly ever wear eyeshadow during the summer, when winter hits I start wearing again
I change my nail polish a bit and wear more glittery golds, green, or reds for the Holidays.

I don’t really change up my routine too much – we use Head and shoulders on occasion anyway!
As far as my skin it does tend to be dryer and requires that I use more moisturizer than ususal.

The only change I really make is using a humidifier. If I don’t use a humidifier in the winter, my forehead gets crazy flaky/peely and no amount of lotion or cream or oil will rehydrate it. But as long as I sleep with my humidifier going, all is right in the forehead world! LOL
