How to Make Cool Paper Airplanes with Klutz Books

Are you guys paper airplane makers?  Well, I have to admit that I was never very good at paper airplane making.  I have always had one style of plane, you probably know it, you know, that very basic 3-fold airplane that doesn’t really fly too well, sigh.  Well, this whole summer Noah has been really into paper airplanes and flying.  Oy!  Not up my alley but I was happy to show him my lame plane making skills anyways.  That is until this book showed up…

Yup, Klutz has done it again.  As a Klutz ambassador (read more about that here) we were sent a bunch of their fun, kid-friendly activity products to try out.  One of these books was, The Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes.  This book is just too cool, especially if you are a momma to boys or well, even girls.  Or you just love paper crafts or origami like me.  I have learned so much about the art of making paper airplanes from this book and I seriously really like it, it reminds me of origami which I also LOVE!

Like all Klutz books, this one is chock full of clear and simple instructions with easy to follow pictures too.  There are 10 different airplanes to make in this book, from simple to the more difficult in paper folding but none are really that hard or take more than five minutes as long as you follow the instructions!

There are pages of tips that of course have Klutz’s funny-speak that make it fun for kids to read and adults too.

The book even includes a bit of physics hidden in it too!  I love how Klutz throws a bit of science into it’s products without making it seem boring or hard to understand.

Each plane comes with a chart at the top of the page showing difficulty level, if the plane is good of indoor or outdoor flying, and a throw chart showing you the best angles to throw it.  Noah really liked the charts to compare the different planes with 🙂

And in the back of the book is a hidden pocket filled with all sort of patterned paper for making your airplanes.  Yes, everything you need to make the airplanes in the book comes with the book, hooray! I have to say, I just love Klutz’s new packaging.  It makes for easy storing, stacking, and wrapping as well as makes them so easy to carry around…travel-worthy for sure.

See, just look at all the patterned paper goodness. Many of it is double sided too for some uber funky airplane designs!

Noah had such a blast throwing our planes.   He has a whole pile of them in his room too.  I’m thinking they would make great decorative pieces if we hung them from the ceiling.

Here is a little more about the book from Klutz themselves:

The Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes

Making paper airplanes doesn’t feel like science. And it’s not quite art. Near as we can figure, launching a regular old piece of paper into the sky so that it soars is pure magic. We present step-by-step instructions for folding aerobatic amazement’s. The ten airplanes in this book are the best we’ve ever seen. This big (10″ x 12″) book comes complete with 40 sheets of flight-tested, ready-to-fold paper, printed on both sides in a variety of 20 colorful patterns, including leopard print, wood grain, hot rod flames and lose-it-on-the-lawn grass. It’s everything you need to rule the skies.

Comes With: 40 sheets of custom-designed paper

For ages 7 and up

Price: $16.95

If you are interested in seeing me fold up some paper and make one of these sweet flying planes, click on the video above.  Seriously, less than 3 minutes to paper airplane races?  Yeah, that is a little boy’s dream come true.

PS. Klutz is launching a Wrap It Up with Klutz! Sweepstakes this fall.  They are giving away 1000 prizes over the next 10 weeks-10 fans each week will win a prize pack featuring 10 Klutz Books!

The best part is, you can enter once per week, here, on the Klutz Facebook page to win a variety of titles from Klutz.  The weekly sweeps start every Monday and you can enter through November 26, 2012.

You will see a few more posts from me over the next few months highlighting more of these great products.  If you want to see more titles from Klutz click here, and make sure to keep up with Klutz on Facebook here!
