My Favorite Essential Oils Face Serum

| Filed Under: Essential Oils, Tutorials

You know what happens when you get in your 30’s? You start getting lines on your face. Sigh. You start seeing them when you smile and laugh…near your eyes and by your mouth. What the whaaat?! I hate to say it but not until I hit my 30’s did I finally start paying attention to my facial routine…and what I could do to reduce those dang lines. I know, it really took me a long time to get with the program!! I started making my own face serum using essential oils a few months back and I have to say I love it…it goes on smooth and not oily. And I feel that the addition of frankincense has really helped my skin look great!

I use this serum every night after I wash my face. And every morning after I shower too. It smells slightly earthy due to the Frankincense but I kinda like that!
Face Serum

  • 30 drops Frankincense
  • 10 drops Melaleuca
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 50 drops Jojoba Oil (this oil is non-comedogenic so it will not clog pores!)

Shake your serum before use to help mix up the oils.

*Be sure to use a glass container for your serum as plastic can break down your essential oils. I like to re-use the empty containers of my EO’s for this! If you would like more info on where I buy my essential oils, please contact me at SmashedPeasandCarrots[at]gmail[dot]com.

Hope you try this out…it’s lovely, truly!

love,

Maggie

What kind of dropper do you use? Do you wash it out in between oils? Do you think this would help get rid of/avoid blackheads (I have a 12yo)?
      Thank you.

        Hi Allison!
I don’t use a dropper, I just drip it into the empty, cleaned out bottle. I would wash out the bottle if you are using a bottle that does not match the ingredient list of the blend you are making. And Melaleuca lavender are great for acne!!!
        Happy oiling!

Hey Maggie, I am using Joboba oil and Castor oil right now. Just wondering why you choose those particular essential oils, what are the benefits?

        Hi Tiff!
There are a ton of benefits to using EO’s! If you want we can catch up in person and I can share with you…I feel like I’d be writing a book on here otherwise! 🙂

I am 33 and I just started my regimen too. I’m sad because I feel like I waited too long. I really like the idea of essential oils! I must try this.

      Hi Maggie,
I recently started using coconut oil and melaleuca on my face after washing, in place of a moisturizer. And I can really tell a noticeable difference in the appearance of my face! Would you recommend this serum instead of the coconut oil or maybe the serum and then apply coconut oil?
      P.S. I LOVE essential oils!

You can definitely stick with what you are using if you like it and it is working for you. I like this serum because the lavender helps with inflammation, melaleuca is good to combat acne, and frankincense is great for cell renewal. I prefer jojoba over coconut oil for my face because it is non-comedegenic. Hope that helps explain the serum to you! And yes, LOVE my essential oils!!! <3
        xo,
        Maggie

Hi Maggie, just wondering do you apply this serum only after washing face or do you still apply any other thing such as toner etc? And if there is, what would you apply and the sequence, appreciate it if you can share with me. Thanks

I apply it after I wash my face. You can use your toner first and then apply…I just don’t often use toner!

      Hi Maggie,
I just started using EO and loving it. What do you use to wash your face prior to the serum?

Does this serum double as a moisturizer, or do you still need to moisturize after applying the serum?

I have gone both ways. I will use it alone and then mixed within moisturizer every other day!

I like your idea. I love jojoba oil and lavender oil, two oil are very good. I wonder if I just use Frankincense and Melaleuca, is is Ok?

      Hi Maggie,

I was wondering HOW you apply this after you wash? Cotton ball? Few drops in your palm and apply?

      Thanks!

        hi Allison,
I just apply it by dropping it onto my fingers and smoothing it into my skin in an upwards motion! Enjoy!!!

Hi Maggie, I have using only Rosehip seed oil as my facial oil for about 15 yrs now, I am now in my mid 40s and only notice a few fine lines when I am doing a big grin ?. I really love oils and I love your recipe, what do you think if I add some rosehip seed oil in this recipe and how many should I use? Your suggestion is highly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Maggie, I was wondering if 50 drops of Jojoba is the equivalent basically to filling the empty essential oil bottle up after having dropped in the essential oils? Is that a 30ml bottle or just the 15ml? Also do you wear this under your makeup? Thank you so much!

      • Maggie says

        January 16, 2017 at 4:56 am

This is just a 5ml bottle! And I do wear this under my make up!!!
