On The Go Snacking Station from a Strawberry Basket

| Filed Under: Back to School, Reviews

With school starting up in another month for us and even sooner for some of you, I thought I would share a fun way that we tote snacks along in the car that may be useful to you for this upcoming school year. I thought it up when a moment of Mommy Brilliance hit me after we had visited a strawberry patch this summer.  The patch we always visit gives my littles these awesome little plastic baskets to put our picked strawberries in. I just love them and keep them every year, they are really well made. We have a bunch and usually we use them for outdoor toys or the kids gardening tools since the holes make it super easy to dump out water or dirt out. But this year I had the brilliant idea to store snacks for the kids in them and keep it in the console between the front seats of our minivan. Aha! Perfecto! I fill it with lots of healthy snacks and now when the kids get in the car from summer camp, vacation bible school, or swim lessons they can grab whatever suits their fancy and eat it once they’ve buckled up. One of my littles’ favorite snacks is Del Monte Fruit Burst Squeezers. They come in Simply Fruit or Fruit & Veggie varieties and they are all really good. Some of the flavors we like of the Fruit & Veggies Squeezers are: Blueberry, Apple Cinnamon (previously available as Simply Fruit, but now available with Fruit and Veggies!) and Peach Mango. And of the Fruit Only Squeezers we like the Mixed Berry and Strawberry flavors. Del Monte Fruit Burst Squeezers offer the goodness of 1 ½ servings of fruits and vegetables and they have a fruit-forward taste so kids love them! The Fruit Burst Squeezers and Del Monte’s Plastic Fruit Cups have no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors either. And they are an excellent source of Vitamin C plus they are gluten free! You can find them at your local grocery store too so it’s easy to add them to your kids’ school lunch box and your pantry for an after school snack that is healthy and super easy to eat. Seriously!?! How awesome is this snack station? I cannot believe I only thought of using those strawberry baskets this summer!!! And guess what?! Del Monte is letting me give away a $100 Visa gift card! They want to know “Do your kids Squeeze or Spoon?” Comment below with your answer for a chance to win!
Aaand, Del Monte is also having a social media contest on Facebook – Do You Squeeze or Spoon? They are asking parents to share their kids’ favorite Del Monte snack with them.  If you share a photo of your kids’ favorite Del Monte Squeeze or Spoon snack on the Del Monte Facebook page HERE between August 1st and September 1st, you could win one of two $10,000 GRAND PRIZES for your kids’ school!”

I’m a spooner. I wish the pouches were recyclable. I hate the idea of throwing them into the trash.

I’m sorry to comment HERE. I just hope that you can help me with subscribing to blogs in general. I used to receive many (including your blog) via my old email at AOL. Then I opened a gmail account and unsubscribed the blogs received via AOL and re-subscribed them in my new gmail account. All of a sudden I’ve started receiving all of the ones I unsubscribed to on AOL, again, in my AOL email! (including your blog). And when I try to unsubscribe, while in AOL, it automatically unsubscribes me from the GMAIL vs. AOL email address, which I received. And those I tried to resubscribe to on gmail, the blogs say “already subscribed,” but I’m not receiving them there any longer. I’m hoping there is an easy way to remedy this. Thanks for your time!

Oh My Ann! I am so sorry! That sounds like the kinda mess I would get myself into 😉 Unfortunately I am going to be absolutely no help to you in this as I have no clue about anything when it comes to subscriptions! My web designer set my blog’s up and from there that’s about all I know, LOL! Maybe if you try googling subscribing or unsubscribing in google? I can’t even figure out what a few good terms would be to look up though, gah! Best of luck and I hope it’s a quick fix!
      Love,
      Maggie

    August 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm

I wanted to love this post. I really did but the dad in me is screaming….”Are you serious?” Fruit and squeezable fruit left in hot cars is a dangerous thing. I am assuming that the portable snack station is going to stay in the car otherwise, many parents will likely forget to pack it. If I’m right, consider this. I once opened a squeezable fruit snack for my child who consumed about a third of it. I put the cap back on and sat on the counter. We went out of town that weekend and when we returned the squeezable fruit container looked like the girl on Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory who licked the wall and turned into a blueberry. It was cool at first thought until I touched it and the darn thing exploded with the force of a champagne cork aimed at my kid. Luckily, it missed but can you imagine? While I love the idea of a snack station, please remember to suggestion refrigeration options so that kids will not become ill from eating what was supposed to be healthy food.

    • Maggie says

      August 10, 2014 at 4:26 am

Thanks for your comment but to put your mind at ease, the thought is that you pack the snack station on the way school pick up or soccer practice, etc and then bring it back inside afterward as it will probably be empty. It shouldn’t really be sitting in your car for long extended periods of time!
