So, the beginning of summer at our house signifies a party. And not just any party but a PAR-TAAY! I love having parties, hosting play dates, grilling out and any other excuse I can make to entertain, it’s so fun, it’s so me… I love it! Last week Noah, Penelope and I hosted our annual ‘Summer is Here, Let’s Par-tay‘ Playdate. They get to invite all their little buddies (which Noah informed me afterwards that they were HIS friends and not his baby sister’s since well, he’s known them a whole year longer…geesh kid!) and I get to have all my momma friends over, we do it while daddy is at work, it works out perfectly.
Anyways, one of the sides/snacks I served up for the big shin-dig was a Sweet Cereal Mix. I love, love, love making this snack cause it’s SO easy and tastes SO good! And what’s even better is that the hubby and kidlets love eating it so I figured it was a definite must to have on the menu (especially with all the little ones that were going to be there). It’s super simple and one of the greatest things about it is the many ways you can doctor it up. You can play with lots of different dry cereals, nuts, salty-sweet combinations, etc. and make it work for any crowd or hungry family. Ya gotta love a flexible recipe!
Yum and Double Yum!
Ok, so here ya go…a super simple snack to make now that school is out and par-taay season is here!!
The Perfect Snack…Sweet Cereal Mix
Recipe Type: Party Food
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup dark corn syrup
- 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
- 1/2 box rice or corn chex
- 1/3 box of wheat chex
- 2 cups mini pretzels
- 1/2 box cheerios
- 1/2 bag honey teddy grahams
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees.
- Grease 2 deep 9 x 13 inch foil pans.
- Mix all the cereal, pretzels and teddy grahams together and divide between the two foil tins, set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and then add in the corn syrup and brown sugar.
- Pour the mixture over the two tins of cereal and mix to coat well.
- Bake for 1 hour, making sure to stir the cereal every 15 minutes or so.
- Spread cereal onto GREASED waxed paper to separate and cool.
Alright, so mix up your cereals, pretzels, etc. and divide between two tin roasting pans.
Then get your butter all nice and melted…
Add in your light brown sugar and dark corn syrup…
Once it’s all combined you are ready to pour on top of your cereal, pretzels and whatever else you decided to use 🙂
Pour that gooey brown stuff over the top and mix so your cereal mixture is nicely coated.
Put in your oven at 250 for 1 hour, making sure to mix it all up every 15 minutes.
Then, pour it all our onto GREASED waxed paper and separate the clumps of cereal (trust me, you WILL want to grease your waxed paper). Let it cool and then you are ready to rock it out!!
Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!!

In the bowl it looks like it should be savoury and then you take a handful and are surprised by the yummy sweetness! I’ve had many requests for the recipe!
