Thursday Art Day-Sand Art

| Filed Under: Kids Crafts, Tutorials

Today, the theme of Noah’s art class was “sand”. We read a book about sand and played games about sand and water. Then, we went outside to get messy! We made sand dough art and decorated it with sea shells and then did a drawing with glue that we added colored sand to so it has a 3-D effect. Here’s how we did it:

Sand Dough Art

1/8 cup glue
1/4 cup sand
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup flour + more to make a non-sticky dough texture
Decorations: seashell, river stones, buttons, whatever!

*This recipe makes enough for one child’s project, double or triple etc. depending on the number of children.

Mix all ingredients together, adding more flour until you have a nice non-sticky dough consistency. Roll your dough out into your desired shape (we made flat circles) and lay onto a piece of waxed paper. Decorate with seashells, river stones, buttons, etc. Let dry for a few days and you have a neat piece of art made by your little!

Glue
Mix food coloring and sand to make desired colors of sand, set aside. Have your child draw all over the heavy duty paper with glue. Pour on your different colors of sand, wait a few minutes and shake off excess sand. Voila! Pretty 3-D sand painting!!

All the stuff we need for today’s projects

Moving on to Sand Project 2…now time to draw with glue anyway you like!

Pour different colors of sand onto the glue

Shake off the sand to reveal your 3-D art

Voila, two beautiful art pieces in under one hour!
