"Spring is Here" Play Date Party

As I mentioned in my post here the other day, a few weeks ago at the Smashed Peas and Carrots household we had ourselves a fun “Spring is Here” party to celebrate the turn of seasons and the nice weather change…and maybe we all had a bit of Spring Break fever too!  The kids invited a bunch of their little friends and they played and ate all morning long as all the mommies had the chance to sit and relax (a little bit anyways) while we chatted, laughed, and ate some yummy food.
I wanted this party to be decorated in fun, bright Spring colors…a rainbow of colors just for Spring, if you will, to go with my theme.  Don’t you love a good theme party!
I made a fun brightly colored pennant out of scrapbook paper and vintage lace…oh, I love me some vintage lace!
And as party favors for each child to take home with them I made Chalkboard Flower Baskets (tutorial found here) filled with brightly colored chalk…what kids doesn’t love some chalk I ask you 🙂
I decorated with lots of mason jars…one of my favorite ways to decorate for a party if you remember Eloise’s Vintage Milk and Cookies First Birthday Party here.
I even used them as vases for an array of pretty spring flowers along with my Mason Jar Frog Lids (tutorial found here!)
I made a refreshingly tart Cranberry Lime Party Punch (recipe found here) loaded with whole cranberries and slices of fresh lime…yum!  And used yellow and pink paper stripey straws to jazz up us momma’s mason jar drinking glasses!
Since this was a late morning play date, I made sure to have some yummy lunch foods on hand for us mommas (I find kids always like to snack during play dates don’t you?)
I made my favorite Chicken Salad for a Crowd (recipe found here) and served it in mini croissants.
And had one of my most favorite salads ever as a side dish for us, Strawberry Spinach Salad.  I’ll share the recipe with you tomorrow.  It is seriously soooo good, it has the most perfect dressing on it and is so super easy to make…I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
For the kids, I opted to have more finger friendly foods that they could just grab without a plate as I knew they would be running all over my house chasing each other.
I offered two types of mini muffins, mini chocolate chip and blueberry.  I placed them in these cute little orange and green polka-dotted baking cups that helped me pull my theme colors together.
I bought a bunch of rainbow sprinkled donut holes and made them ‘donut pops’ by sticking them with a lollipop stick.  I dyed a bunch of rice green (like I did for my sister’s ‘Pretty in Pink’ bridal shower seen here) and placed all the ‘pops’ in it so it looked like flowers popping out of grass.  The kids really liked this a lot!

And of course I had to have a few healthy items…fresh fruit is always a necessity at a party!
As is cheese and crackers!  I cut the cheese with a little flower cookie cutter to go with my Spring theme too!

It was the perfect Spring Party to welcome a new season and catch up with good friends, I love that kinda party!  Thank you to all my lovely momma friends who came and for all your adorable children for wearing mine out!
Thanks for stopping by today!!

 XOXO,
