We tick marked and measured. Accurate height readings are a must on the first day of school…and on the last as well!
Then we headed outside to take pictures…
And more pictures…
Until that big, yellow bus made its way down our street stopping right in front of our house, such service I tell you.
This momma held back tears. While Daddy was awesome and came home from work to video record the adventure. And the girls were jumping for joy, they wanted on that bus so badly. Don’t you love how Eloise put on her dress backwards, lol…my fierce little independent!
At school (yes, we drove to school–even though he took the bus–just to get a few more pictures!), backpacks were left on their class line and those new little Kindergarteners got a chance to take the playground for a spin before their day got started.
Little sisters were sad and mad that they couldn’t play.
Soon enough it was time, we waved our goodbyes and he was off to learn.
A few hours later the bus pulled up and this whirlwind of energy bounced off…
Homemade brownies with chocolate frosting were waiting at home. The chosen after school snack of this big man on campus.
A smile of approval says it all. A very good day indeed.

What a great post! My little guy is now 23, and these pictures made me miss those days but also brought back great memories. Enjoy these years — they fly by!

My youngest just started Kindergarten yesterday too. It was so tough seeing her get on the bus with her sister, they grow up so fast! Great pictures and love the special breakfast 🙂
Maggie says
Oh, how exciting for you! Hope they all had a great first day and onward!

My middle child starts K on Tuesday. He is so excited! His teacher stopped by the house yesterday and we have orientation where I get to go to school with him tomorrow. His first official, FULL DAY (oh my! no half days in this neck of the woods), is on Tuesday. So bittersweet. 🙂
Maggie says
How cool that your teacher stops by your house! And how great you have full days, I wish we had those, Noah is sooo ready for that! Hope everything was easy breezy for all including you 🙂

Looks like he had a great day!!! My little girl starts Kindergarten this coming Tuesday – she’ll go T/TH and every other F. She’s so-so on the whole deal, hoping she will love it and have a great time like your little man!
Maggie says
I hope she liked it! Noah was so-so on Kindergarten this whole summer so I am really surprised how much he loved it…I think he was a little apprehensive that all his preschool friends were going to different schools.

Fun! I took and posted that same picture of the backpacks on the ground.

They grow up so fast! I’m going to tear up when my son goes to his first day of school in a few years! I’m already tearing up! Feels like just yesterday he was a newborn. You are right, time does fly by quickly as a mama! 🙂 Gotta cherish those sweet moments!
Maggie says
Yes, we do! I am still a bit shocked that I have a child old enough to take the bus…BY HIMSELF!!! Ahhhh!

Oh so precious! Great idea about the brownies. My kids start back on Tuesday and I’ll have to have some sort of special treat waiting for them.
You’re just starting on this journey, and my ‘baby’ is going to kindergarten, so this is the last “first day” I’ll get to experience!
Maggie says
Oh, this makes me teary! What will I do when Oliver starts Kindergarten? I hope your kids had a great first day!!!

Awesome! I love all the traditions you have. And I love that you drove to school even though he took the bus. I totally would do that too 🙂 Love the pictures. Happy to have discovered your blog. My son is starting school next week. How can it be?!? I look forward to following your blog. Thanks!
