Another School Lunch Idea: Bento Style

| Filed Under: Back to School, Bento, Bento Lunch, Recipes, Tutorials

Here’s another school lunch idea, bento-style! I am still prepping for our school year which is starting soon and am creating a list of healthy, fun to eat lunches for my oldest two who will be bringing their lunch to school.
The KIND brand of snacks are some of our family’s favorites. They are clean eating at it’s best. The company believes if you can’t pronounce an ingredient it shouldn’t go into your body, or your pantry for that matter! So all their bars and other snacks are made from all-natural nuts, fruits, and whole grains with nothing artificial in them. The KIND company was nice enough to send us some of their delicious product recently so I used some of it to create a fun lunch for the littles.

PS. for those of you that are Gluten-Free, Wheat-Free, have a Peanut allergy or are doing the Paleo no peanut thang KIND does make snacks that you can enjoy! Above are just a sampling of snack bars you might be able to enjoy, hooray! They do have quite a few bars that are peanut-free and made with pecans cashews, almonds, and pistachios although please beware that the packaging states that it was processed in a facility using peanuts.

We love this granola! And guess what? It makes a great item to pack along in a school lunch!

The lunch I made used a Two tiered Bento box (you can buy one like it here) and once separated looks like this, above.
The top layer looks like so.  It includes ham and cheese roll ups with a bento pick for mess-free eating, a small silicon baking cup of KIND granola, and a small cup of vanilla greek yogurt.

I know some of you had concerns with the last meals I showed (click here to see them!) regarding the yogurt and messiness that might ensue in your kids’ lunchbox.  If you don’t have a separator in your bento box or the lid is not tight fitting you could place your yogurt, hummus, , salsa, ranch dressing, etc in these little plastic cups with lids (I bought mine at Target). The bonus of using them is that if the food is really smelly after hours of sitting out (I’m talking to you ranch dressing) your child could just toss it so you aren’t having to gag while hand washing it to re-use for another meal.

Voila! Mess-free yogurt!  Just mix in your granola for a crunchy and sweet meal idea!

The lower layer contains slices of fresh strawberries and bananas with a few bento picks for eating them…bonus: you can also dip these babies in the yogurt!

Then you just place the lids on the containers and stack the layers up.  With these tiered bentos I like to use a band to keep the tiers together. Place in your child’s lunchbox or bento bag and you’ve got another fun and healthy lunch for them to eat!

XOXO,

*I received compensation for this post; however, this is my personal, honest opinion based on my experience with the product.

      Looks fun and yummy!
My 7 year old picky eater is sitting next to me and she is worried the bananas would go brown. Any suggestions?
      Thanks

Great question! I usually lightly brush bananas…or apples…or avocado…with lemon juice if I don’t want them to turn brown and stay pretty looking! You just need a little and if you only use a bit it won’t alter the taste at all…just don’t dip or soak them in it!
